Senior Ophthalmic Nurse
Manager Wanted
Concord Hospital Eye Clinic,
NSW.
From January 2011 the Concord Hospital Eye
Clinic will require a new and energetic
senior ophthalmic nurse manager. The clinic
is a very busy ophthalmic centre and
generates a significant operating list that
runs 4 days per week with 12 eye doctors.
The applicant should have a solid basis in
all aspects of ophthalmic nursing and have
good managerial skills. The following are a
list of duties:
-
Checks the daily clinic activities.
Being aware of the nos. of patients
booked for the day. Staff present in the
clinic, Specialist and Registrar doing
the surgery.

Liaise with the appointment centre and
clinic clerk regarding the patient’s
bookings and over bookings.
-
See to it that the patients are booked
according to their problems and listed
to the proper specialist
-
Check and liaise with Admissions
regarding the surgical list. Specialists
are reminded if their surgical list is
cancelled.
-
Submit cancellation notice to the Appt.
Centre for the specialist and registrar
on leave.
-
Reduce the clinic nos. of patients when
the specialist and registrar are on
leave.
-
Liaise with Biomedical dept. for
equipment repair and trials for new
equipment.
-
Send the appropriate request form for
stationeries and small eye equipment
needed for patient’s examination.
-
Liaise with the Head of the Dept. for
any issues and concerns in the clinic.
-
Attends the 3/12 Ophthalmology meeting.
-
With the help of the 2 nurses, sees to
it that all books for the OH&S audit are
ready.
-
Sees to it that all patients care are
attended to and are seen as soon as
possible.
-
Keep record of patients, processed for
the artificial eyes.
-
Acts as the resource person.
-
Attends to the patient’s clinical care
and patients education.
The current manager is Sr Ruby Alcantara who
is retiring at the end of the year after 20
